Non formal Education Programme
The programme is designed for illiterate women living in the village sides
The Adult education programme in the project could bring a hike in the literacy rate in the villages. More than 25 % of females in Tamil Nadu are illiterate and therefore hindered in their autonomy and self esteem.
Illiteracy was a cause for the women to keep a distance from entering into the development aspects both individually and socially. Due to their low self-confidence, they were afraid to join in the group because they feared becoming the group animator or representative.
SC Illiterate women in the village are being trained under the non-formal education programme by the village animator and the SHG animators. As a part of the program, exercise book containing alphabets, small words, poems and numbers are distributed to the trainees.
In each project village is at least one Tuition Class according to the population. Every afternoon the children get support while doing their homework and studies from a Tuition Teacher. The children are between 1st and 8th standard and go to Government schools. All children from a village get incuraged to attend the Tuition Class. The progress in their academic performance gets observed and weaker students are provided with special care.
